KanKouran West African Dance Company

KanKouran West African Dance Company returns to Dance Place for their annual performance in honor of Martin Luther King Jr. An integral part of the DC dance community for more than twenty five years, KanKouran’s dancers possess “astounding strength and athleticism” that “make this troupe such a pleasure to watch” The Washington Post. Lead by natives of Senegal, Founder/Artistic Director Assane Konte and Master Drummer Medoune Yacine “Dame” Gueye have captivated audiences around the globe since 1983. The Washington Post has said that “It is a rare treat to see West African dance performed with authenticity and excellence.”

Dissonance Dance Theatre at NBC4’s Fitness Expo

The Health Fair provides free health screenings, fun activities and information on products and services that relate to healthy living. This year, Dissonance Dance Theatre, in collaboration with dance service organization Dance Metro DC, will provide entertainment as 1 of 10 dance organizations to participate in this years expo. Stop by the Dance Metro DC table and say hello to DDT dancers, who will be around before and after their demonstration performance, or have a conversation with our very own Artistic Director Shawn Short! Come out and show your support
